Khaki Devil in Bury St. Edmunds | Theatre Promotional Photography in Suffolk | Immersion’s Journey’s End

August 30, 2016

R. C. Sherriff’s moving play, set over 4 days in the trenches near Saint-Quentin, Aisne, in 1918 towards the end of the First World War has been brilliantly portrayed by The Immersion Theatre Company.

This was an amazing opportunity for me as a theatre photographer to become involved at the beginning with the preparations for a press shoot at an authentically recreated WW1 Trench (run by Khaki Devil – a company who specialise historic military uniforms, equipment, weapons, props, locations, and historical advice for Film, Television, & Theatre) and then with the actual production itself.

We started out on a rainy morning at the Headquarters of Khaki Devil near Bury St. Edmunds – meeting 3 of the main cast members, director James Clifford and the very helpful Khaki Devil staff.  The knowledge (& stock!) of this company is second to none.

Once all the cast were fully kitted out with uniforms we moved on to Khaki Devil's recreation of  1st World War Trenches nearby.  Starting out with a few images taken at the HQ...

Then later at the trenches, here are some of the final promotional images...

A few shots of the trenches themselves before we take down the shoot - it is such a moving experience to work here.
